A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot that is programmed to manufacture objects that have been generated digitally with a computer. Complex forms created with a 3D modeling program that would typically be impossible or limited by conventional manufacturing methods can be created with this technology.
This technology is explored on this site by utilizing various open source 3D printer designs that operate by a process called fused filament fabrication (FFF). This is a process that builds an object layer by layer by extruding a bead of thermoplastic.
